"Joy of life is born through courage."
My Story
11 Generations of Wine - Joy of Life in the Blood
LUKAS SCHMIDT STANDS FOR PASSION.
Insanity! More than half a millennium. Wine for 11 generations here at the winery in Bullenheim. It is a great honor for me to continue this legacy. Growing up with wine in your blood is something very special.
I have enjoyed a very good education in the best wine regions in the world. In southern Styria and South Tyrol I learned how complex and exciting the world of aromatic grape varieties can be. In the Bullenheimer Paradise - my home - the best Scheurebe grapes have been growing for decades. Today I get to harvest great grapes from vines that grandpa planted with his hands. Wow!
Lukas Schmidt Wein stands for unique aromatic grape varieties - Scheurebe, Muskateller & Riesling - that are fun! Complex, juicy, spicy - great! Dive into the wonderful world of nose wines with me.

It was time for a Big Bang
After further training, my path continued seamlessly at home into the generational estate. My father, who himself had to take on responsibility at a very early age, gave me the responsibility for the entire wine production. What was that again about the cold water? Uncomfortable, but you feel incredible afterwards. And that's exactly how I felt. At that time, I introduced the first branded wines and, with my international wine knowledge and a good dose of courage, was able to boost sales so much that we doubled production in the company in a very short time. As a young master winemaker with a passion for technology, I already had the feeling at that time that the industry in this country was hardly adapting to developments in the 21st century. At every wine fair, colleagues told customers the same thing over and over again. How to plant vineyards perfectly, that the vines have to be particularly old and which important work steps are required to make wine. All true, yes. It just felt so incredibly boring to me. An enormous pressure and urge to move forward developed within me. Together with business partners, we had the idea of changing the way we consume wine. At 21, I was managing director and co-owner of my first start-up company. A truly wild time! From Munich to Hamburg, from Düsseldorf to Berlin. Even back then, I was able to get to know many valuable personalities and, above all, I learned how dynamic it is to want to establish a new brand and a new product on the market.
From Wine Farmer to Wine Entrepreneur
In order to find the center of my life, I was able to experience another exciting adventure. After my first attempts at working in a winery at home and my first experiences outside of the winemaking trade, I was part of an idea that was supposed to revolutionize cooperation in the wine industry. The idea was relatively simple at first. Take two family wineries, put them together and on the one hand you have an economic advantage and on the other hand you can achieve many times more together. With the development of this completely new corporate structure in winemaking, I was once again pushed far out of my comfort zone. A big picture of a smarter and modern winemaker's life gave me enormous motivation for this project. It took a lot of courage to give up the existing brand of the family winery and set off on this completely new adventure. In a very short time, I was able to rethink ordinary thought patterns - according to the motto: "If something doesn't go the way you think, think differently." Once again, I had the opportunity to build a brand from scratch from the idea. With a lot of energy and networking, this step was more than successful in its time. The new company attracted a lot of attention in the industry and made the most of the Corona situation with innovative sales ideas. Once the new structure was in place, I had a big task in life to solve for myself. I realized that the image of the joint venture was developing further and further away from my vision. I am very grateful that I found my way out of this hole and learned to go my own way. As a wine entrepreneur.
The new beginning – The beginning of the LUKAS SCHMIDT brand
My brand should make the joy of life that I carry within me tangible. That was my big picture at the beginning of 2022 and it still is today. Finally, as a "free" person, with ease and fulfillment, I was allowed to follow the path that I consider to be right for me. Everything that I have learned in the past 10 years in the wine industry, in entrepreneurship and brand communication should be reflected here. Suddenly I was different. Different from everyone else. LUKAS SCHMIDT is not a real family business with tradition - but it wasn't really a start-up either. Well, in any case, the beginning of the most beautiful adventure so far. With the new brand, we presented the new collection for the first time with an outside perspective. More than once I asked myself the question: what is really important? This is how our current Smart Wine concept was born. Great wines, broken down to the maximum necessary communication. Wine has to taste good. And that with wines that I love. Wines that smell wonderful. Nose wines.
As a brand LUKAS SCHMIDT, I am proud to be the exclusive partner of the German Ski Association , the German national ski teams and the Bundesliga team Bamberg Baskets .
"Replace the fear of wine with a lot of joy in life."
An unbridled energy
I have always allowed myself to have big dreams and visions. When I have a big picture of a topic, the goal is within my grasp. With a lot of positive energy and zest for life, I tackle things and try to find solutions for my path. I have learned to find my inner center through numerous personal development seminars. I owe an incredible amount to Stefan Stadler, founder of SHP-Potential AG . Thanks to the topic, it is now easier for me to follow my path and find joy in life in every challenge.
Passion to Inspire
Joy in life is contagious. Courage too. One of my greatest joys is to use my knowledge and experience to make joy in life tangible. We all have fears and that is perfectly fine. Some of you know that the way to conquer fear is to go through it. Very few people step out of their comfort zone. With my lectures I want to inspire others to have more joy in life and show that you can achieve anything in life.
Be Grateful & Give Back to the World
In everyday life, it is not always easy to see every little detail of life and to let it happen with love and appreciation. We are responsible for the things we do - but also for the things we don't do. Have you ever walked through the city and tried to smile at everyone you meet? An indescribably fulfilling feeling.
As a mentor at the Winegrowers Academy, it is important to me to give my colleagues the perspective that they too can find their own path. The existing pattern can be broken and old structures can be changed. I want to give others the opportunity to learn from my experiences and inspire them to enjoy life more.
For me, as an 11th generation master winemaker, it is only natural to treat our nature with respect. We are committed to organic, sustainable winegrowing and manage all of our vineyards in accordance with EU organic guidelines. I have decided not to use this seal of approval on my wine bottles. Our treatment of our nature should be done solely out of respect for it and our descendants.
Finding your inner center
From courage to adventure to even more joy in life. Even though I have already been able to gain a lot of experience at a young age, I am convinced that I still have a lot of tasks to solve in this life. And I will not give up until I have found my center in every area of life.
