Our dedication continues in the wine cellar: the grapes are processed carefully and precisely in order to optimally bring out the unique fruit and minerality that our vines, with their deep root system, transport into each berry. Using the latest technology, the hand-picked grapes are gently separated from their stalks, while leaves and stems are sorted out. This detailed process ensures the quality of our harvest and enables us to create wines of exceptional purity and elegance. We have been dedicated to winemaking with dedication and passion for almost 400 years. For us, wine is the most precious pleasure that can be experienced in a unique way with all five senses. In our vineyards, we cultivate grape varieties with an incomparably fruity aroma, whose berry skins contain an impressive potential for aromas.
A distinctive wine style.
During processing, we place great emphasis on care and sensitivity in order to preserve the valuable aromas. Our Scheurebe grapes in particular, which are known for their intense fruity scent, are subjected to a maceration lasting several days after a second selection in the cellar. Here we use a process that requires a great deal of expertise and sensitivity: natural cold maceration. With this method, we are able to carefully transfer the essential aromas and minerals from the grape skins into the juice. At the end of this complex process, a golden yellow, highly aromatic grape juice of the highest purity is produced. This is how our unmistakable style of fruit and spice is created.
This concentrated energy of our vines allows the grapes to ripen earlier and to be harvested at full maturity even under demanding weather conditions. The result is grapes that are particularly tasty and allow us to create wines that are full of flavor despite a comparatively low alcohol content.
Breathtaking explosion of taste.
In the vineyard, we place particular emphasis on quality. The number of grapes that a vine can bear has a significant influence on the character of the wine. At LUKAS SCHMIDT, we deliberately reduce our yield by more than 30%. At first glance, this may seem like a disadvantage, but the smaller number of grapes ensures that each fruit is supplied with more flavor and minerals.
