Wine recommendations from Middle Franconia
Middle Franconia may be significantly smaller than Lower Franconia in terms of its vineyard area, but its winemakers are skilled. Their wines from the Franconian Keuper, a soil formation that is common in Middle Franconia, are even world-famous. This is certainly also due to the passionate winemakers. Wine expert and sommelier Conny Ganß presents her three personal favorites from Middle Franconia.

2023 Scheurebe "Second Flight" dry, Lukas Schmidt wine
Growing community : Bullenheim, Ippesheim
Price : about 8.50 euros
Conny Ganß: "The largest vineyard area in Middle Franconia is located in the area of the wine-growing town of Bullenheim . The ' Bullenheimer Paradies' site is the cradle and namesake of the wine-growing region ' Weinparadies Franken' . Perhaps that is why master winemaker Lukas Schmidt chose the bird of paradise as his logo .
At the age of 17, Lukas was already driven to create something valuable from big dreams. Lukas, who is now the eleventh generation to run the family winery in Bullenheim , brings with him a great deal of skill and respect for nature. He always keeps an eye on the industry and follows his own path courageously and innovatively . His infectious joie de vivre is also reflected in his wines. A glass, or sometimes a bottle, full of joie de vivre, for every occasion. Authentic, Franconian, and with a certain wink.
Lukas is taking a new, contemporary approach with his wines - the ' Smart Wine' concept : high quality clearly communicated. His wine line 'Second Flight' stands for pure joie de vivre, with a focus on the aromas of the grape varieties. The aromatic Scheurebe in particular is a worthy representative of this series and embodies what 'Second Flight' is all about.
Planted by Grandpa Werner over 50 years ago, the wine shines with its typical fruit of pink peach, orange and juicy passion fruit. Added to that is the fine spice of nutmeg and a little elderflower. But never overloaded - only the Scheurebe can do that if you make it with a lot of sensitivity! Wonderfully drinkable on the palate, good draw, lots of juiciness and refreshingly dry. The glass is empty in no time.
This wine goes well with dishes such as baked cauliflower with sweet and sour vegetable salad and miso ."
