back to the roots…
When I finished my training more than 11 years ago, I could never have imagined how influential my apprenticeship would be for me to this day. Of course, it was a great adventure back then, meeting lots of new people, getting lots of new ideas and learning the winemaking trade from scratch. I was incredibly grateful to my teachers at the time. But it was only over time that I realized how valuable the individual training companies really were. As part of my technician and master craftsman training, I was able to complete part of my further training in South Tyrol in 2014. The Laimburg School of Winegrowing and the State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture had a close connection and good exchange at the time.
This is how I came into contact with the Cantina Tramin winery. Tramin is located at the southern end of the South Tyrolean Wine Route. I was able to help vinify the 2014 vintage in this world-class winery. As the name suggests, the Gewürztraminer grape variety plays a major role. Cellar master Willi Stürz - one of the best cellar masters I have ever had the pleasure of meeting - has been responsible for the cultivation of over 270 hectares of vines for over 30 years. I learned an incredible amount from him about the careful processing of aromatic grape varieties. What was particularly fascinating for me was that such high quality can be produced consistently given the size of the company.
It is now completely clear to me that 'nose wines' are my thing. As you know, Scheurebe plays a big role for us, also because I get to work with vines that Grandpa Werner planted with his hands over 60 years ago. Our Second Flight Scheurebe has probably become one of my most important wines. On the one hand, the dry Scheurebe is great as a sundowner on the terrace - or in front of the fireplace - and on the other hand, it is a wonderful accompaniment to food, especially with fish dishes or spicy Asian cuisine. In this wine package, I have put together two daily nose wines for you. Alongside the Scheurebe, I would like to show you one of my favorite Traminers. The SELIDA Gewürztraminer by Willi Stürz. Warning - not for the faint of heart. ;-)

NOTHING TO BE SHY
There is no trace of shyness in this grape. Rather, it has a confident appearance on the nose. Pears and oranges converse with a ripe peach. In the mouth, a juice that is super sexy, the tongue is lulled by ripe fruit and a fine spice. A slightly exotic mango appears on the palate, which you can't ignore even in the finish. A drop that is drinkable in the best sense of the word. Juicy and charming in the mouth. A real bundle of joy.
SELIDA Alto Adige Gewürztraminer DOC 2022 - Cantina Tramin
flavors
This wine has an intense, bright golden yellow color and develops a variety of aromas on the nose, reminiscent of roses, lilies, spicy flowers, dried and ripe exotic fruits such as lychee, mango and passion fruit. On the taste, Selida is rich in body, extract and finely spicy juiciness.
Food & Wine
A wonderful accompaniment to food, it goes well with antipasti made from fish and smoked meats, especially bacon and lardo, mature soft cheese, dishes with white meat, swordfish or seafood. It is a delightful accompaniment to spicy dishes from oriental cuisine and hearty, aromatic creations, such as vegetables marinated in lemon.
Have fun trying it out!
